AI Policy

JLA Author Guidelines on use of AI tools

The emergence and ongoing development of generative AI tools have led to changes in many academic disciplines, both in the conduct of research and in the generation of scholarly articles. Authors submitting their manuscripts to the Journal of Liberal Arts, Prince of Songkla University, agree to follow the guidelines listed below:

Use of AI tools in the Research Process:

  • If the use of AI or AI-assisted tools is part of the research design or research methods, such use must be described in a reproducible manner in the Methods section of the manuscript. This should include an explanation of how the AI or AI-assisted tools were used, the name of the model or tool, version number, and manufacturer.

Citation of AI as an Author or a Tool:

  • AI and AI-assisted technologies should not be listed as an author or co-author of a manuscript. AI should also not be cited as an author.
  • When AI is cited as a tool, the author must use the APA software citation template,
which includes specifying in the methods section how, when, and to what extent AI was used.
  • The use of generative AI tools for plagiarism detection and reference management is permitted and does not have to be declared.

Use of Generative AI Tools for Proofreading and Language Editing:

  • In the process of writing the manuscript, authors may use generative AI tools for language editing and proofreading only, not for generating content
  • Any use of generative AI tools for editing or proofreading must be disclosed in the cover letter and noted in the Acknowledgments section. Where generative AI applications have been used to improve readability or grammar of a manuscript, the authors agree to make available for verification and comparison the original version of a manuscript upon request by the journal editor.

Authors are ultimately responsible for ensuring the originality and integrity of their work, and manuscripts found to have been generated by AI tools will be rejected.
