The Four Iddhipāda Principles : Integrating Artificial Intelligence Technology to Enhance English Learning Efficiency of Students at Buriram Buddhist College

This study, entitled “The Four Iddhipāda Principles: Integrating Artificial Intelligence Technology to Enhance English Learning Efficiency of Students at Buriram Buddhist College”, aimed to : 1) investigate students’ problems in using English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills; 2) examine the integration of the Four Iddhipāda principles with artificial intelligence technology for the development of English learning; and 3) propose guidelines for developing English learning through the integration of the Four Iddhipāda principles and artificial intelligence technology. This study employed a mixed-methods research design. The population consisted of 80 undergraduate students in Years 1–3 from all programs at Buriram Buddhist College, in the first semester of the 2025 academic year. The quantitative sample consisted of 30 undergraduate students in Years 1–3, selected by simple random sampling. The key informants for the qualitative data consisted of five English lecturers and experts in the use of artificial intelligence technology, selected by purposive sampling. The research instruments were a questionnaire, a document analysis form and a semi-structured interview form. The quantitative data were analysed using percentage, mean and standard deviation, while the qualitative data were analysed using content analysis.
The findings revealed that : 1) the students’ overall problems in using English skills were at a moderate level (M = 2.64, SD = 0.91). When considered by skill, reading had
the highest mean score and was at a moderate level (M = 2.77, SD = 0.98), followed by speaking, which was also at a moderate level (M = 2.68, SD = 0.87), writing, at a moderate level (M = 2.64, SD = 0.93), and listening, which had the lowest mean score and was at a low level (M = 2.48, SD = 0.87); 2) the integration of the Four Iddhipāda principles - Chanda, Viriya, Citta and Vīmaṃsā-with artificial intelligence technologies, such as YouTube, Cake, Quizlet and ChatGPT, enhanced students’ motivation, perseverance, concentration and analytical thinking, and enabled them to practise English skills continuously according to their individual abilities; and 3) the systematic integration of the Four Iddhipāda principles with artificial intelligence technology provided a student-centred approach to learning and supported the development of English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in accordance with the educational context of Buriram Buddhist College and twenty-first-century learning skills.
