The Synthesis of Fundamental Guitar Curriculums and Teaching Methods

Abstract
The Classical guitar instructions have been popularised in primary and secondary schools, as well as non-formal educational settings, due to its exquisite sonority, versatility, and ability to perform as a solo instrument and in band settings. This article delves into an in-depth exploration of classical guitar curriculum, teaching methods, and textbooks aiming at unveiling a novel paradigm for the creation of knowledge. It is found that the classical guitar has had a long history of development, wherein its physical characteristics were meticulously crafted to suit advanced playing techniques. This historical factor gave rise to many guitar composers who, in turn, produced many textbooks into popular use. By adopting popular music, together with de-emphasising the use of musical notation, while putting a focus on listening, deep understanding of music, and ability to emulate for creativity, today’s curriculums produce new learning experiences that are phenomenally recognised. I believe that this process generated a transformative phenomenon to the guitar instruction, for it has “long believed that fun and academic success are not diametrically opposed to each other, but rather potentially complementary” (Incze 2013, p. 1).
