Role and Duties of Folklore from Online Narrative in Naresuan University

Abstract
This research study aims at investigating types of beliefs and analyzing roles and functions of Naresuan University online narratives transmitting over Internet-based media. Narrative compositions revealed (not repeatedly or similarly) 19 stories. The result of the study reveals that the selected narratives were classified into five types including: 1) beliefs connected to auspicious moment, vision, dream, and sacred rituals; 2) beliefs associated with the religion; 3) beliefs related to maintaining good fortune and dispelling ill fortune; 4) beliefs interconnected with hell, heaven, lifetimes, and incarnation; and 5) beliefs associated with superstition and wraith. Roles and functions of narratives were put into four categories including: 1) audience involvement and entertainment 2) regulation of physical behaviors 3) regulation of mental behaviors, and 4) records of places, stories, and events. The roles and functions that regulate the behaviors are compatible and interrelated; in other words, the study suggests that regulating physical behaviors through social practices and warning can affect the mental state to live in harmony with others.
