Sonic Quality Modification for Jakey By Master Sivasit Nilsuwan

Abstract

This research aims to study the problems and the sound quality adjustments of the Jakey of Master Sivasit Nilsuwan. The qualitative research approach is employed such as literature review, fieldwork, and interview who inherited knowledge of the sound quality adjustments of Jakey from Master Sivasit Nilsuwan. The result found that the problems of Jakey’s sound regarding the structure of musical instruments such as tong jakey (body), toe jakey (bridge), Nae (saddle), Say Jakey (Strings), Sum/Yong (Nut). Besides, another problem is a lack of knowledge of the Jakey player about the adjusting sound of Jakey. The sound quality adjustments, Master Sivasit Nilsuwan has learned from professional Jakey makers and investigated the structure, components, and sound characteristics of the Jakeys by himself. Furthermore, he also sought how to adjust the sound of Jakey and he uniquely invented the components of the Jakey are the twined strings of Jakey, the insertion of iron into the frets of Jakey, using stainless and brass making the bridge of Jakey.
