The Development of the Monks' Potential in Public Welfare Through the Implementation of Projects by the Supreme Sangha Council in Kanchanaburi Province

Abstract
This research aims to investigate the implementation of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University's (MCU) projects, the development of monastic leaders in driving welfare initiatives, and propose a model for MCU project implementation by the Sangha in Kanchanaburi Province. Employing a participatory action research methodology, data were collected through in-depth interviews with
12 key informants. Content analysis and narrative techniques were used for data presentation.
The findings reveal:
- The Implementation of projects effectively addresses community needs, including disaster relief, elderly care, and welfare activities, leading to improved quality of life. Collaborative efforts have fostered trust in the Sangha's capabilities and strengthened community-temple partnerships, resulting in increased community participation in project development and support.
- The development of monastic leaders in welfare work involved capacity building through training programs for monks in Kanchanaburi Province. These programs, implemented by MCU, enhanced their welfare-related skills, improving their work efficiency. Training and practical experience enabled monks to effectively apply their knowledge, skills, and strategies in community welfare services, better meeting community needs.
- The model for MCU project implementation by the Sangha in Kanchanaburi Province emerged from a developmental process driven by trained monastic leaders working within communities. This successful model, termed the "MONK MODEL," comprises four key components: M (Mindset) – attitudinal adjustment; O (Organization) – efficient management; N (Networking) – collaboration within the "Borwor" framework (a Thai concept emphasizing collaboration between temples, communities, and government); and K (Knowledge) – knowledge sharing. These components are crucial for project success.
