Abstract

This study aimed to (1) examine the capability components of news editors in Thai mass media organizations in the digital era, (2) develop a capability model, and (3) construct a guideline manual for capability development. A mixed-methods approach was employed using the Delphi Technique. The participants consisted of 21 mass media experts for in-depth interviews, 15 qualified experts for focus group discussions, and 5 experts for manual evaluation, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included in-depth interview forms, five-point Likert scale questionnaires, and a manual evaluation form. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis, while quantitative data were analyzed using median and interquartile range.

The findings revealed that the capability of news editors consisted of three dimensions: news competency, digital knowledge, and desirable attributes, comprising nine main components and twenty-six sub-components. The developed capability model was evaluated and approved by experts as appropriate and applicable for practical use. In addition, the guideline manual was validated by experts and was found to be applicable for systematic capability development of news editors and media personnel.

This study contributed new knowledge on capability development for news editors in Thai mass media organizations. It proposed a practical capability model that can be applied as a framework for personnel selection and development, enhancing work efficiency in both public and private media organizations.
