Developing Creative Tourism of Tour Programs and Activities with Community Participation Based on A New Normal in the Area of Ban Klang Subdistrict, San Pa Tong District, Chiang Mai Province

Abstract

This research aims to 1)study the resources, potential, and community context of Ban Klang Subdistrict, San Pa Tong District, Chiang Mai Province, as fundamental information for developing tour programs and creative tourism activities. 2) analyze the level of community participation and attitudes toward the development of tour programs and creative tourism activities based on the community’s way of life. And 3) design and develop creative tourism programs grounded in the local way of life within Ban Klang Subdistrict, San Pa Tong District, Chiang Mai Province. This study employed a mixed-methods research design. Data were collected from a sample of 30 participants within the community. The research results show that the potential resources in the community for developing participatory creative tourism activities based on new lifestyles in Ban Klang subdistrict, San Patong district, Chiang Mai province, can be categorized according to the components of community-based tourism management into four areas: 1) Natural and cultural resources, 2) Community organizations,
3) Management, and 4) Learning. The area with the highest average score is natural and cultural resources, with an average score of 4.44, followed by community organizations with an average of 4.25, learning with an average of 4.07 and management with an average of 3.86.


 The level of community participation and attitudes toward the development of tourism programs and creative tourism activities, as well as their attitude toward the participatory learning process, are divided into four stages: 1) Awareness of the problem, 2) Decision-making and planning,
3) Implementation, and 4) Evaluation. The stage with the highest average score is the implementation stage, with an average score of 3.90, followed by the awareness of the problem stage with an average of 3.82, the decision-making and planning stage with an average of 3.74 and the evaluation stage with an average of 3.59.


From the entire research process conducted in collaboration with the community on the development of tourism programs and creative tourism, two community-based creative tourism programs were developed based on new lifestyles in the Thung Siao area. These programs are designed to provide alternative options for tourists. The programs allow tourists to engage in creative tourism activities at Wat Srinawat, San Patong district, Chiang Mai province, offering convenience to visitors. This approach has a positive impact on improving the quality of life for local people and ensures the long-term sustainability of tourism.
