Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aimed (1) to develop health-promoting areas for the people in Rewadee Community, Nonthaburi Province, (2) to develop community health-promoting activities, and (3) to expand the outcomes toward sustainability through participatory processes. The study employed qualitative and participatory action research methods, using participation processes and stakeholder engagement as the research framework. The research area was Rewadee Community, Nonthaburi Province. The sample consisted of 30 participants, including community members, community leaders, committee members, and officials from the Nonthaburi Municipality, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included interview forms, and satisfaction assessment forms. Data were analyzed using content analysis and presented descriptively with coding support.
The research findings revealed that:
- The development of health-promoting areas for the people could be concretely implemented by improving landscapes and transforming abandoned spaces into safe, shared-use areas that also promoted the community economy through local market activities.
- Health-promoting activities such as merit-making spaces, Dhamma spaces, wisdom-sharing spaces, aerobic exercise, and vocational training reflected active community participation and integrated Buddhist principles with the sufficiency economy philosophy.
- The expansion toward sustainability was achieved through the creation of internal and external community networks, supported by CSR activities and volunteer groups, under the framework of the Six Principles of Cordiality (Sārāṇīyadhamma), which fostered unity and collective responsibility for public spaces.
The body of knowledge from this research highlights that community participation is a key mechanism in developing health-promoting areas and activities that respond to physical, mental, intellectual, and social dimensions, ultimately leading to sustainable community development.
