Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to: 1) examine the current state of local wisdom and creative tourism;
2) assess the level of youth knowledge and awareness concerning local wisdom and creative tourism; and 3) develop a learning process of local wisdom to promote creative tourism among youth in Suan Phueng District, Ratchaburi Province. The research employed Mixed methods research. The participants included 14 key informants, 327 youths selected through quota sampling, and 30 youths who voluntarily participated in learning activities. Semi-structured interviews and questionnaires were used. Data were analyzed using content analysis and descriptive statistics, including percentages, means, and standard deviations. The results of the research found that:
1) Local wisdom in the area will have been risked by fading due to decreasing interest and engagement among youth. Nevertheless, the community continues to preserve and transmit prominent forms of local wisdom, such as the Hae Chat procession, Khao Hor (rice wrapping), Kang Dong drum-making, Ram Tong dance, Kwae, and Ngo folk performances. Creative tourism in the area reflects the integration of cultural elements into tourism management, highlighting the need for youth to learn and carry on these traditions.
2) The youth demonstrated a high level of knowledge and awareness regarding local wisdom, creative tourism, and 21st-century career skills.
3) The youth developed an appreciation for local wisdom, recognized the importance of cultural preservation, and were able to integrate this knowledge into creative tourism activities. Factors contributing to the success of the learning process included collaboration from schools, community leaders, and relevant agencies. However, challenges remained, particularly regarding accessibility to local knowledge and youth interest in cultural transmission.
The key finding of the study was the development of a learning process of local wisdom that effectively fostered youth appreciation and enabled the meaningful integration of local wisdom into creative tourism initiatives.
