Abstract

The purposes of this research were to : 1) study the mathematical problem-solving ability of Mathayomsuksa 4 students who received instruction through the 7Es learning cycle approach, and 2) compare their mathematical problem-solving ability with the 70 percent criterion. The population for this study consisted of Mathayomsuksa 4 students at Chonradsadornumrung School, Chonburi Province, during the 2024 academic year. The sample consisted of 40 Mathayomsuksa 4 students selected through cluster sampling during the second semester of the 2024 academic year. The research instruments comprised a set of lesson plans based on the 7Es learning cycle approach on the topic of applying functions in real-life situations, and a mathematical problem-solving ability test on the same topic. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and inferential statistics through a one-sample t-test to test the hypotheses.

The results revealed that 1) the students’ mathematical problem-solving ability in applying functions in real-life situations was at a very good level. 2) their ability was significantly higher than the 70 percent criterion at the .05 level of statistical significance.

This study found that implementing learning activities, based on the 7Es learning cycle, effectively promotes the systematic development of students’ mathematical problem-solving skills. The 7Es learning cycle utilizes real-life situations, open-ended questions, and collaborative group work.
