Abstract

Development of a Skill Exercise to Enhance Basic Mathematical Skills in Counting for Second-Year Kindergarten Children. The objectives of this research were: 1. To study the basic information for creating mathematics skill exercises. 2. To develop and determine the efficiency of the mathematics skill exercises to meet the 80/80 criterion. 3. To pilot the use of the mathematics skill exercises. 4. To evaluate and improve the mathematics skill exercises and study students' opinions towards the use of the mathematics skill exercises.


The research findings were as follows: 1. Basic information from the study indicated that the development of skill exercises should have an appropriate format, diverse activities, be consistent with the curriculum for the second year of kindergarten, and adhere to the principles of learning through practice, focusing on the learner as the center. 2. The results of the development and efficiency determination of the mathematics skill exercises revealed that the developed skill exercises had an individual tryout efficiency of 89.17 / 90.00, a small group tryout efficiency of 89.26 / 88.89, and a field tryout efficiency of 88.63 / 88.24 3. The results of piloting the use of the skill exercises showed that most students were interested and eager to learn using the mathematics skill exercises developed by the researcher. Students cooperated and were dedicated to performing activities, both individually and in groups. Observations of students' learning behaviors revealed that they knew how to work in groups, helped each other, respected the opinions of others, and were good listeners. 4. The results of the evaluation and improvement of the skill exercises indicated that at a confidence level of .05, the post-learning mathematics readiness scores in counting for students who learned with the skill exercises were significantly higher than their pre-learning scores. Furthermore, students' opinions towards the mathematics skill exercises were positive at an overall high level. When considering each aspect, students agreed at a high level across all aspects.
