Abstract

This study aimed to 1) investigate the implementation characteristics of experiential learning integrated with interactive digital media designed to promote conceptual understanding of systems of linear equations with two variables among Grade 9 students, and 2) examine the conceptual understanding of systems of linear equations in two variables after participating in the experiential learning integrated with interactive digital media learning approach. The target group consisted of 23 Grade 9 students. The research instruments included experiential learning lesson plans integrated with interactive digital media on systems of linear equations with two variables, and a conceptual understanding test on the same topic. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and content analysis. The findings revealed that 1) The implemented experiential learning approach integrated with interactive digital media to promote conceptual understanding of systems of linear equations in two variables was characterized by emphasizing hands-on student engagement with mathematical concepts through interactive digital media tools (e.g., constructing and adjusting graphs, simulating scenarios using virtual balance scales), followed by guided reflection and collaborative discussion to construct meaning, and culminating in the application of understanding to new situations for consolidation, and 2) The target students achieved an average conceptual understanding score of 75.69% of the total score, which exceeded the predetermined criterion of 60%.

The knowledge derived from this research highlights that experiential learning integrated with interactive digital media makes abstract concepts relatively concrete for learners, fostering conceptual understanding through hands-on practice and the use of multiple representations.
