Abstract

This research aimed to The Organizing format of the virtue promotion activities as appeared in the Jataka tales on dasa – paremi of Buddhist-oriented schools, utilizing a Mixed Methods Research approach that integrates qualitative and quantitative research methods. Data collection involved observations, interviews, and questionnaires.


The findings revealed that schools demonstrated varying levels of understanding of the ten perfections (parami) depicted in the Jataka Tales, ranked as follows: Energy (Viriyaparami): 92% Wisdom (Paññaparami): 91.2% Patience (Khantiparami): 90% Truthfulness (Saccaparami): 90% Renunciation (Nekkhammaparami): 89.8% Determination (Adhitthaanaparami): 87% Equanimity (Upekkhaparami): 86.7% Loving-kindness (Mettaparami): 86% Morality (Sīlaparami): 85% Generosity (Daanaparami): 79.8%. Buddhist schools organized a variety of activities aligned with each perfection in the Jataka Tales, such as storytelling, illustrating, tree planting, meditation, and reating art. These activities were found to be consistent with Buddhist Education Principles, emphasizing experiential learning, self-reflection, and group participation to foster a deep understanding of moral values. Additionally, the activities supported the principles of Active Learning by encouraging students to think critically, express creativity, and develop social responsibility through hands-on experiences.
Evaluation results indicated that students participating in these activities gained a deeper understanding of moral principles and values such as compassion, patience, selflessness, and truthfulness. These improvements positively influenced their daily behavior. The analysis further demonstrated that adapting activities to the school and community context enhanced learning effectiveness.
Key findings highlighted the potential of the Jataka Tales as a learning medium to promote moral values and positive behaviors among students. Recommendations from the research included expanding the activity models to other schools, developing additional teaching materials, and organizing teacher training programs to enhance the design of activities in alignment with Active Learning principles and Buddhist teachings to ensure sustainable outcomes.
