Abstract
This article aims to examine the factors influencing the competency development of national basketball coaches (basic and intermediate levels), develop a competency development model, and evaluate the model. The research utilizes the competency development framework, studying 300 coaches from higher education institutions in Thailand. The second phase involves data from 9 experts, and the third phase includes 15 experts. The research tools comprise questionnaires, interviews, and evaluation forms. Data analysis involves structural equation modeling, percentages, means, standard deviations, and content analysis. The findings reveal that: 1. Factors influencing the competency development of national basketball coaches (basic and intermediate levels) include planning and goal-setting, training and development, assessment and feedback, and support and encouragement. 2. The competency development model for national basketball coaches (basic and intermediate levels) consists of two main parts: identifying influential factors and establishing systematic and effective competency development guidelines. 3. The model evaluation by experts indicates high levels of accuracy, appropriateness, feasibility, and usefulness, suggesting it can effectively guide the competency development of coaches.
The knowledge from this research can be applied as a guideline for enhancing the competencies of national basketball coaches (basic and intermediate levels), equipping them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attributes to perform their duties effectively. This will contribute to the long-term development of athletes' potential and the success of their teams.
