The Study of Group Counseling to Enhance Emotional Awareness in Teacher Students

Abstract

The objectives of this research were as follow 1) to construct a group counseling model to enhance the emotional awareness of teacher students. 2) to compare the emotional awareness of teacher students who participated in group counseling. in the pre-experimental period, post-experimental period follow-up period. The samples used in the study were teacher students at Rajabhat University in the north eastern area, obtained from a stratified random sampling of 460 people and the sample in the group counseling were eight teaching students, whose emotional awareness lower than the twenty-fifth percentile. The research instrument include the following 1) an emotional awareness scale reliability coefficient (alpha) of 0.91 2) Group counseling model to enhance the emotional awareness. Data were analyzed by averaging. standard deviation and one-way repeated MANOVA.


The results of the research can be summarized as follows: 1) the group counseling model, ten sessions, session 1 :  Rapport, session 2:  Being mindful of physical awareness, session 3:  Identifying emotions and feelings, session 4-5: Analysis of emotions, session 6-7: Recognition of one's own and others' emotions, session 8-9: Expression of emotions, session 10:Termination. 2) Results of group counseling to enhance emotional awareness of teacher  students in the post-experimental period and the follow-up period of teacher  students. There was a significantly higher emotional awareness than the pre-experiment period at the .05 level. The group counseling process that integrates effective counseling techniques results in a learning experience for students in cognition, emotions and behaviors create a higher emotional awareness.
