The Development of Guidelines for Management in Crisis of Small and Medium-Sized Project Construction Businesses in Bangkok and Metropolitan Region

Abstract
The purposes of this research aimed: 1) to study business environment, entrepreneurs’ characteristics, business strategy and competitive pressure during crisis of small and medium-sized project construction businesses in Bangkok and metropolitan region; 2) to examine relationship of business environment, entrepreneurs’ characteristics and business strategy during the crisis of competitive pressure; and 3) to develop guidelines for management in crisis of small and medium-sized project construction businesses in Bangkok and metropolitan region. Qualitative research used in-depth interviews with 24 people from representatives of small and medium-sized construction companies along with group discussions of 10 people, then systematically draw conclusions, analyze the data by analyzing the content and presented a descriptive form.
The finding indicated that: 1) the current situation from the factors of economic, social, cultural and technological reflects competitive pressure during crisis of small and medium-sized project construction businesses in Bangkok and metropolitan region in order to prepare for changes in crisis from the current situation; 2) the crisis of competitive pressure including (2.1) business environment, (2.2) entrepreneurs’ characteristics, (2.3) business strategy affects partnership relationships in the form of a network; and 3) guidelines for management in crisis based on research findings including (3.1) business partners in the construction, (3.2) internal management process, (3.3) preparation of risk management plan for the construction business, (3.4) construction’s technology, (3.5) funding sources, and (3.6) labor skills, respectively.
