Risk Management from Fire in Slum Areas

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to: 1) study risk management from fire slum areas: 2) study problems and obstacles affecting risk management from fire slum areas:  and 3) suggest guidelines for risk management from fire slum areas. A qualitative research by in-depth interviews from 20 key informants included government sector, private sector and public. The data was collected by in-depth interviews then bring to describe, conclusions systematically, rationally refer to the theory and proceed to organize the data.


The finding results indicates that: 1) the condition of the slum community is a reflection of the physical condition that poses a high risk of fire problems that are evident from the lifestyle and quality of life: 2) problems and obstacles affecting risk management from fire result from the nature of slum areas of dispersed houses; no pre-planning, no infrastructure provisioning, lack of knowledge and understanding of fire prevention and suppression plans, these affect the community's primary fire suppression: and 3) guidelines for risk management from fire slum areas should promote fire prevention through knowledge management that is appropriate to the community context, preparedness and practical fire prevention along with the cooperation of various sectors, focusing on raising awareness and building a culture and safety in the community.
