LANGUAGE STRATEGIES FOR PRESENTING THE NEW BY USING VERBS IN NEWS HEADLINES REFLECTING THE IDEOLOGY OF THE RIGHT TO MATE SELECTION AND FAMILY CREATION IN THAIRATH ONLINE NEWS ABOUT THE PRIDE MONTH

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between language and discourse reflecting the right to mate selection and family creation in the news headlines of Thairath online from 2020 to 2023. The data used in this study consisted of the news headlines in Thairath online news about Pride Month during the four years, totaling 58 pieces of news.  Critical discourse analysis theory was employed as a guideline for the study. The results of the study on the characteristics of the news about Pride Month revealed that the language strategy used in the news headlines was the use of verbs in three respects. These consisted of the use of verbs to demand the right, the use of verbs in the process of the right management, and the use of verbs in the management and success of the demand. It was found that the three most frequently used verbs were “marry” 21 times; “open” or “broadly open” 9 times; and “Confirm” 8 times. These verbs reflect the concepts of the right to mate selection and family creation via the law drafting process, and that the rights must be widely accepted in society.
