The Role of Thai Traditional Massage from Wat Pho: A Literature Review and Development Guidelines for Healthcare
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to review the literature on Wat Pho Thai massage, a traditional practice recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The study draws on various sources related to Wat Pho Thai massage, focusing on its therapeutic applications, stimulation of the Sen Sib Line, body balance adjustment, and health promotion based on Thai traditional medicine principles. It also examines massage techniques, pressure application, muscle stretching, and the use of herbs to enhance therapeutic effects.
The review found that Wat Pho Thai massage effectively relieves pain, increases muscle flexibility, and stimulates blood circulation, making it suitable for alleviating muscle aches, back pain, and headaches. Additionally, it aids in stress reduction and mental health improvement through relaxation achieved by pressure and stretching techniques. The findings suggest that this massage offers a natural, drug-free alternative treatment, aligning with the growing trend toward natural health care practices.
Furthermore, the research presents recommendations for developing training curricula to meet international standards and supports further experimental studies to confirm the therapeutic efficacy of Wat Pho Thai massage for health and well-being, ensuring its value is preserved and passed on to future generations.
