Factors Affecting Accident Prevention and Reduction Behaviors on the Roads of the People in the Area of Udon Thani

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study behaviors to prevent and reduce road accidents, factors affecting behavior to prevent and reduce road accidents and guidelines for developing behavior to prevent and reduce road accidents among people in Udon Thani province. It is a mixed method consisting of quantitative research and qualitative research. The sample group consisted of 400 citizens and 10 government officials, peacekeeping officers, local government officials and community leaders. Research tools are questionnaires and interviews. Data were analyzed by calculating frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, multiple regression analysis and descriptive data analysis. The results of the research found that 1) People have overall road accident prevention and reduction behavior at a moderate level with the average of law enforcement behavior being the first priority and followed by surveillance and awareness raising. 2) Factors in the roles of network partners, local role and public participation affects people's behavior in preventing and reducing road accidents with statistical significance at the 0.05 level. 3) Guidelines for developing behavior to prevent and reduce road accidents. There are 3 aspects: (1) Law enforcement: drive carelessly, be mindful and concentrate while driving, follow traffic rules and bring the law into force in the community in a concrete way (2) Surveillance aspect: create careless behavior or driving, don't use your phone while driving, by studying the traffic manual and traffic laws, drive according to traffic rules,  understand how to use the law and providing serious knowledge about traffic laws and (3) Creating awareness: prepare a traffic law manual for the public, warn motorists to use high-risk roads to prevent and reduce accidents, and plan, implement and evaluate results.
