MUSICAL BAND ADJUSTMENT FOR PIPHAT MAI KHAENG ENSEMBLE COMPETITION

Abstract
From folk music to the unique convention, the evolution of Thai classical music can be traced back to the Sukhothai period. Piphat, known as a musical band which is relatively popular in every era, is normally played for sacred rituals, performances, pleasure, and competitions. Courtiers and noblemen in the past selected the performers with great performance ability for their palaces. Due to the rise of such popularity, the Thai classical music competitions were held to show or seek for the top performers with the greatest ability from those palaces. Not only the competitions revealed the performers’ musical skill, but the wisdom of various sublime musical composers in arranging stunning musical styles had also been passed on.
