ACTUAL AND EXPECTED CHARACTERISTICS OF STUDENTS IN SOCIAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT, FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES, PHRANAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA RAJABHAT UNIVERSITY

Abstract
The purposes of this research are to study: 1) actual characteristics of students in the Social Sciences Department of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University; 2) expected characteristics of the students; and 3) prioritization of needs for developing characteristics of the students. The 210 subjects have been selected by purposive sampling from the students of the Social Sciences Department, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Rajabhat University. The instrument used is a five-point-scale questionnaire. The statistical tools used for data analysis are mean, standard deviation, and Modified Priority Needs Index.
The results are as follows:
1) Overall, the actual characteristics of the students of the Social Sciences Department have been found to be at a high level in 6 aspects ranked from highest to lowest as follows: university identity; knowledge; interpersonal skills and responsibilities; morality and ethics; cognitive skills; and numerical, communicative, and Information Technology skills.
2) Overall, the expected characteristics of the students of the Social Sciences Department have been found to be at a high level in 6 aspects ranked from highest to lowest as follows: university identity; numerical, communicative, and Information Technology skills; knowledge; interpersonal skills and responsibilities; cognitive skills; and morality and ethics.
3) The prioritized characteristics that the students of the Social Sciences Department need for development have been ranked from highest to lowest as follows: numerical, communicative, and Information Technology skills; cognitive skills; interpersonal skills and responsibilities; morality and ethics; university identity; and knowledge.
