A Performance Analysis Of Telemann’s 12 Fantasias No. 1-3: A Schenker Approach

Abstract
The purposes of this study were to interpret and find methods for giving an instrumental performance and practice of Telemann’s 12 Fantasias for Solo Flute No 1-3 composed by Telemann. The study applied the Schenker Theory for analyzing the interpretation of performance and practice. The results found that each one of Telemann’s Fantasias have the outstanding features in a different melody. Fantasias No.1 shows feature in Tone Area and Compound Melody. Therefore, a guideline to perform and practice which focuses on Air Control technique and Articulation that makes the musical notes become apparent. Fantasia No.2, presents the movement of Arpeggio melody and shows neighboring notes, has Ornamental notes and also shows an interesting melody movement. Fantasias No.3 has the outstanding feature in the melody’s direction including compound melody, broken notes and leap notes making intervals and consonant sound which makes the fluent Articulation both in playing performance and in practice.
