Main Article Content
Abstract
The War Crimes occurred during the World War II did not limit themselves in the fofffrm of the genocide, the Holocaust (The Jewish Genocide) and Nanjing Datusha (The massacre of Chinese population during the Second Sino-Japanese War). Another form of War Crime as indicated in the “Rape of Nanking” written by Iris Chang mentioned the Policy of Comfort women that the Imperial Japanese Army had forced sexual slavery from local women in China, Korea. This fundamental War Crime was always ignored and denied the responsibility by the Government of Japan. Until the 4 August 1993 when Mr. Yohei Kono the Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan had declared the Kono Statement by admitting the involvement of the military authorities of forcing of sexual slavery of local women in China, Korea to be comfort women during the wartime. By such statement resulted in the movement of ex-comfort women whom entered the public hearing in order to reveal to the globe about those war crime, especially, Jan Ruff-O’Herne, the first ex-Dutch comfort woman in Dutch East Indies who wrote an autobiography entitled “Fifty Years of Silence” as a mean to reveal her tragic past.
