The Traces of Lao Wiang Language in Ban Lao Community, Dhevaraj Subdistrict, Chai Yo District, Angthong Province

Abstract
The main purpose of this research was to gather data in relation to the vocabulary in the language of an ethnic group named Lao Wiang, located in Ban Lao Community, Dhevaraj subdistrict, Chai Yo district, Angthong province. The informants were Lao Wiang people aged 50 and over who could still remember and communicate in Lao Wiang language. This research was conducted under the qualitative method. The data were collected using 1) participative observation, 2) language and cultural checklist, and 3) unstructured interview.
The findings revealed that the traces of Lao Wiang language in Ban Lao Community were found in the forms of certain words and sounds belonging to Lao Wiang language. However, these Lao Wiang terms were typically spoken by some locals in a small group on special occasions. In addition, Lao Wiang terms seemed to be kept as words and memory rather than be used for communication in everyday life.
