The Motivation of the Volunteer Work According to the Principle of Buddhist Psychology a Variety of Occupations in Thai Society

Abstract

The purpose of this article were: 1. to investigate concepts and theories relating to volunteer working motivation through Buddhism and psychological principles, 2. To study factors enhancing volunteer working motivation of people with different professions; the case study in persons received the Tara award of Sathira Dhammasathan, and 3. to propose the effective ways of enhancing working volunteer of people with different careers; the case study in persons received the Tara award of Sathira Dhammasathan. The qualitative research methodology was applied in this study. The 14 subjects, both male and female, working in 10 different careers were selected by purposive sampling method. The qualitative data were collected by using the interview and then were analyzed by using content analysis. Major research findings indicated as follows.

1. Theoretical concepts of motivation of volunteer work according to Buddhism approach. The principles used to motivate the volunteer work are Ariyawat 5, Brahmaviharn 4, and Sangkhawattu 4. The principles of psychology are Maslow's and McClelland 's theory of motivation.
2. There are 2 factors that promote motivation, volunteer work, namely internal factors: 1) compassionate mind; 2) self-morality; self-sacrifice to help others without expecting compensation. Be generous and share. 3) Have a giver mind. Have a good attitude, think well, think positively 4) have empathy 5) perseverance Think about helping others Work done by heart. And external factors are 1) parenting from the family, 2) seeing an example from a model who does good. Help society causing faith to follow Both from studying Buddhism Learned of the sacrifice of the Buddha, seeing the royal duties of King Bhumibol Adulyadej Rama IX, including the social work of Sansanee nuns and their parents who teach and make them, 3) having a good friend persuade them to do good activities, help others in the society who have suffered.
3. Guidelines for motivating volunteer work according to Buddhist psychology principles consist of: 1. Mindfulness and positive thinking that are ready to help others 2. There is sacrifice, generosity, sharing with others 3. Have good friend persuade to join in doing good social activities 4. Have a role model that is an example of doing good without expecting returns. 5. Responsible to society 6. Have intelligence to consider things that should be done. Appropriate according to one's ability and made with consciousness.
