The Concept of Karma in Folktales

Abstract

This article is a presentation of Buddhist perspective on Karma by studying through folk tales, news and the story of Mrs. Rohinee in the commentary (Atthakatha). The first aspect, the story of Phaya Khan Kak is a local folk tale of North Eastern of Thailand, this story has content and objectives related to the way of life of agriculture. Arid land produces legends and rituals for rain. The local social context is a peasant society in tandem with the Buddhist society, therefore, there are Buddhist philosophical concepts.

The second aspect concerns with news. And the third, the story of Mrs.Rohinee in the commentary (Atthakatha) has the main content reflected the Buddhist Philosophy. From the study found that the folk tales such as Phaya Kankha's story, news and stories of Mrs. Rohinee in the commentary reflected the thought of the good deeds, to do the good deeds Ignoring bad deeds, refrain from doing bad deeds which is a guideline consistent with Buddhist teachings.
