THE MOTIVATION TO PRACTICE VIPASSANA MEDITATION OF BUDDHISTS IN WATPRADUB SING BURI PROVINCE

This thesis titled “The Motivation To practice Vipassana meditation of Buddhists in Wat Pradab Sing Buri Province” had three objectives namely: 1) to study level of motivation to practice Vipassana meditation of Buddhists in Wat Pradab Sing Buri Province, 2) to compare effect of personal factors on motivation to practice Vipassana medition of Buddhist in Wat Pradab,sing buri province3) to study relationship between personal factors and motivation to practice Vipassana meditation of Buddhists in Wat Pradab Sing Buri Province. The method of this research is quantitative and this research is emphasized on studying psychological theories integrated with Buddhist principles. The Research tools is questionnaire created to measure the level of motivation to practice Vipassana meditation. The samples in this research were 95 Buddhists who participated Vipassana meditation course at Wat Pradab Sing Buri Province. The research result:- The most of participants were female, 51-60 years by age, unspecified occupations, and married, They are mostly, finished it undergraduate degree and had 5,000 baht per month as income, and their experiences of practice meditation are between 5 to 10 times. Generally, the motivation of them is in high level. On considering specific aspect, It found that comfortness of people, accommodation, foods, postures, and social need, and love is in high level, but self-actualization, need for safety and self-esteem is in moderate level. Personal factors namely, sex, age, occupation, marital status, educational level, monthly income, and experiences of Vipassana meditation practice have no effect on motivations to practice Vipassana meditation at significant level .05 Personal factors have negative relation between motivation to practice Vipassana Meditation, but no statistical significance.
