Developing Skilled Village Health Volunteers to become Quality and Sustainable Primary Health Care Providers

Abstract

This article aims to present the development of Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) to enhance their capabilities, with the goal of establishing a quality and sustainable primary health care system. The study findings indicate that in order to develop CHVs into competent individuals for effective primary health care, it is essential to cultivate their transformational leadership qualities. This includes having a vision for innovating and improving community health. Effective leaders should possess the following characteristics: 1) Inspiration: The ability to motivate community members to participate in health-related activities. 2)Knowledge and Skills: Proficiency in communication, project management, and problem-solving to lead teams toward set objectives. 3)Role Model: Demonstrating healthy behaviors and maintaining good health to instill trust in the community and encourage adherence to health practices. Furthermore, it is important to foster a spirit of volunteerism in community service. CHVs should be committed to assisting the community, understanding their needs, and actively listening to the concerns and requirements of community members to provide targeted support. This approach builds strong relationships within the community and enables them to perform their roles effectively, resulting in successful outcomes and achieving sustainable development goals.
