Factors Related to the Quality of Life Among Caregivers of Schizophrenia Patients in Chonburi Hospital

Abstract
Background: Schizophrenia is one of the most serious mental health illnesses in Thailand. In Chonburi province has 4,964 schizophrenia patients. However, the patient cannot take care of themselves so caring from caregiver is necessary. The quality of life among caregivers of schizophrenia patient is interesting aspects and need more supporting.
Objectives: To study the factors related to the quality of life among caregivers of schizophrenia patients
Methods: An analytical cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted via questionnaires among
primary caregivers, 290 samples. The questionaries contain of demographic data of caregivers, illness data.
The questionnaires approved the content validity and reliability, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient =7.07 and
using WHOQOL-BREF-THAI. Factors Related Quality of life among Caregivers of Schizophrenia patients were
analyzed by multiple logistic regression.
Results: The result revealed that most of them (56.2%) had the quality of life at the moderate levels. The analysis result of Factors Related Quality of life among Caregivers of Schizophrenia patients(p<0.05) are caregivers status(p=0.007),income(p<0.001), relationships between caregivers and patients(p<0.001),Total years of caring Schizophrenia patients(p=0.016), Flare up symptoms in a month(p=0.007) and patient’s communication skills(p<0.001).
Conclusions: From this study, the quality of life of caregivers depend on multiple factor; therefore, the related departments should give priority to the quality of life among caregivers of schizophrenia patients.
