A Study the Comparison on Supply Chain Management Skills of Sugarcane Farmers in Thale Wang Wat Sub-district, Tha Luang District, Lop Buri Province

Abstract

The research objectives were to 1) study supply chain management skills of sugarcane farmers, and 2) compare supply chain management skills of sugarcane farmers when classified by gender, age, education level, sugarcane production experiences, types of land possession, sugarcane cultivation methods, types of sugarcane harvest, sugarcane harvesting methods, and selling methods. This study is a quantitative research. The research population consisted of 216 sugarcane farmers’ households in Thale Wang Wat sub-district, Tha Luang District, Lop Buri province. Research samples were 140 sugarcane farmers’ households selected by a stratified sampling technique. Research instrument was a set of questionnaires with Index Objective Congruence (IOC) of 0.83 and with the reliability of 0.991. The statistics used for data analysis are percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, One-Way ANOVA, and Fishers Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The research results illustrated that the arithmetic mean of supply chain management skills of sugarcane farmers, in overall, was at high level. The mean could be arranged in descending order as following; production skill ( X'= 2.81), delivery skill ( X'= 2.76), procurement and purchasing skill ( X'= 2.59), and planning skill ( X'= 2.15). The research findings revealed that the lowest mean in planning skill could be seen in farmers’ cooperative planning. Therefore, public and private sectors should provide training programs, and coaches to encourage farmers’ knowledge sharing together. In accordance with the comparison of supply chain management skills of sugarcane farmers when classified by gender, education level, and sugarcane cultivation methods, there was a significance.
