Administration Model for the Local Curriculum on The Palm Community Way of Life at Banpongsalod School in Phetchaburi Province

Abstract

The purposes of this research were: (1) to develop a local curriculum administration model entitled The Community Way of Life of Palmyra Palm in Ban Pong Salod School; and (2) to investigate the outcomes of implementing the developed local curriculum administration model at Banpongsalod School in Phetchaburi Province. This study employed an action research methodology. The target group consisted of 30 participants, including one school administrator, three teachers, one local wisdom expert, one community leader, and 24 students from Grades 4–6. The research instruments were divided into two categories. The first category comprised innovation instruments: (1) the local curriculum administration model entitled The Community Way of Life of Palmyra Palm in Banpongsalod School and (2) the local curriculum on the same topic. Both instruments demonstrated content validity with Item-Objective Congruence (IOC) values ranging from 0.67 to 1.00. The second category consisted of data collection instruments: (1) a learning achievement test, (2) a student practical skills assessment form, and (3) a student attitude assessment questionnaire. The IOC values of these instruments ranged from 0.67 to 1.00. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and percentage of progress. The research findings revealed that: 1) The developed local curriculum administration model, entitled the PLAMS Model, consisted of five stages: (1) Planning (P) – curriculum planning; (2) Arranging (A) – curriculum development and organization; (3) Launching (L) – curriculum implementation; (4) Monitoring (M) – supervision, monitoring, and follow-up of curriculum implementation; and (5) Success Evaluation (S) – curriculum evaluation. And 2) The implementation of the PLAMS Model yielded positive outcomes. Students’ learning achievement after the implementation was higher than before implementation, with an overall progress percentage increase of 23.54. Students’ practical skills were rated at a good level overall (  = 3.34,  = 0.51). In addition, students’ attitudes toward learning through the local curriculum on the community way of life of Palmyra Palm were rated at a high level overall (  = 4.00,  = 0.64).
