MECHANISMS FOR COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN CONSERVATION OF BON DAM SATUN BAN KHAI RUAMMIT, THUNG NUI SUBDISTRICT, KHUAN KALONG DISTRICT, SATUN PROVINCE

Abstract

This research comprised these objectives, which included: 1) To study mechanisms for community participation in conservation of Bon Dam Satun and 2) To study suggestions about solutions to mechanisms for community participation in conservation of Bon Dam Satun within Ban Khai Ruammit, Thung Nui Subdistrict, Khuan Kalong District, Satun Province. This research employed quantitative approaches to the study. The sample consisted of people within the area of Ban Khai Ruammit, Thung Nui Subdistrict, Khuan Kalong District, Satun Province, with a total number of 285 people. The tool used for data collection was a questionnaire for the research. The statistics used for data analysis included percentage, mean, and standard deviation. In the matter of the qualitative study, it was the data collection by conducting in-depth interviews with 25 key informants. The research results indicated that: 1) The level of mechanisms for community participation in conservation of Bon Dam Satun was at a high level in general. (  = 3.88, SD = 0.74) 2) The suggestions about solutions to mechanisms for community participation in conservation of Bon Dam Satun had distinguished into each aspect as follows: 2.1) The aspect of production in cultivation for propagation, people involved with agreements in cultivation planning. 2.2) The aspect of community participation, the participation of people in the cultivation of Bon Dam Satun, not only gave the opportunity for farmers to cultivate valuable plants to receive a good amount of income. 2.3) The aspect of supervision, the supervision for the cultivation of Bon Dam, was the crucial step to producing the products with high quality and high performance. 2.4) The aspect of reforestation, reforestation was a strategy used in the superintendence and strengthening of Bod Dam due to the damage caused by deforestation or climate change and environmental challenges.
