Political-led Collaborative Governance: A Case Study of the Buriram Model

Abstract

This research article aims to examine a model of political collaboration between local government organizations and the Bhumjaithai Party, and to analyze the roles of other political network actors within the urban development process in Buriram Province.  This study employs a qualitative research methodology. The data was collected through
In-depth interviews with 17 key informants across five groups, including 1) Bhumjaithai Party Members of Parliament, 2) local politicians, 3) private sector, 4) civil society, and
5) experts in political science and public administration. The authors use content analysis and thematic analysis to analyze qualitative data. The results reveal that the model of political collaboration between local government organizations and the Bhumjaithai Party constitutes an institutionally interdependent collaborative governance, with politically led collaborative governance serving as a key driver of the strategic advancement of urban development in Buriram Province. The structure of collaboration four key actors, including (1) political sector, (2) public sector, (3) private sector, and (4) subdistrict headman & village headman, which form a cohesive quadripartite collaborative network. In this configuration, Members of Parliament from the Bhumjaithai Party function as central institutional actors, coordinating collaboration among multi-level network partners across both vertical and horizontal dimensions. This arrangement facilitates effective and coherent collaboration between local politicians and Members of Parliament, thereby advancing urban development in Buriram Province.
