Abstract

The purposes of this study were to examine conditions, problems, and directions of Buddhism propagation of Buddhist monks in Nonthaburi Province, and to propose reform strategies for Buddhism propagation of Buddhist monks in Nonthaburi Province. This paper applied qualitative methodology by investigating relevant documents, observing, and conducting in-depth interview and focus group. The findings were presented as follows: 1) there were several problems with Buddhism propagation, for example, lack of sufficient number of monks, too much focus on reactive management, lack of strategies for propagation, and lack of budget. Therefore, the effective strategies should be defined to suit current situations and to develop personnel for proactive propagation. Also, adequate budget should be provided; 2) the reform strategies for Buddhism propagation of Nonthaburi Province should implement balanced scorecard including four important perspectives:             1) finance – a fund should be established to provide resources to Buddhism propagation; 2) customer – the proactive propagation should be promoted to reinforce Buddhism, enhance intellectual potential, and foster solid faith; 3) internal process – internal management should be improved by promoting collaboration between networks, developing good governance system, and implementing technology for Buddhism propagation; and 4) personnel – Buddhist learning in organizations should be encouraged by arranging projects to increase capabilities of Buddhist personnel and strengthen knowledge of Buddhism.
