The Study of Sweet Corn Production Capacity Management Approach, Sriratana District, Srisaket Province

Abstract

        The purposes of this research are 1) to study sweet corn product management in Sirattana district, Sisaket province, 2) to study the guideline of increasing production potential’s sweet corn product in Sirattana district, Sisaket province and 3) to suggest the management guideline of production potential of sweet corn in Sirattana district, Sisaket province has by the use of a case study from sample as agriculturists growing sweet corn of 85 households and target group living in Sayao sub-district, Sirattana district, Sisaket province of 40 persons and target group used in focus group of 15 persons as representative of Key informant. This research uses the mixed methods approach: qualitative and quantitative research design. Instruments used in this research are consisted of interview, questionnaire and focus group by data analysis with Frequency statistics, percentage, mean, theory analysis on statistics economics and mathematics and then present the analysis by descriptive and build a conclusion found as follows:


         1) The sweet corn product management in Siratana district, Sisaket province, context status of district it is district growing sweet corn the most in province, most of areas for growing the sweet corn in Sayao sub-district, Siratana district that agriculturists have product as the ways of 4 M consisted of (1) Material can be divided into big machinery and small agricultural material, and hybrid sweet corn seed. (2) Method of product process there are 5 steps; namely soil preparation, fertilizer, weed removal, watering and harvesting. As for problems and obstacles of production process; namely seed germination, (3) money, most agriculturists use the capital in household and raising a loan from Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives and (4) man or agricultural workers, most of them are labor in household and mechanical type. 2) The guideline of increasing production potential’s sweet corn product in Sirattana district, Sisaket province, most of agriculturists have experience in growing sweet corn product more than 10 years upward. In sweet corn production of most agriculturists has the capital for expenses in sweet corn production consisted of (1) wage capital, (2) material capital and (3) other expenses capital that agriculturists’sweet corn production capital averages 2,943.65 Baht /rai/household/one round and sweet corn sale price equal to 3.37 Baht/ear of corn. When calculate breaking even point, agriculturists must manufacture the minimum sweet corn averaging from 795.21 ear of corn/rai by fixing sale price averaging since 2.63 Baht/ear of corn upward and then agriculturists will have profit from sweet corn production. and 3) The management guideline of production potential of sweet corn in Sirattana district, Sisaket province has very high Strength and Opportunity since there are environments and agriculturists that favor production. Besides there is still high purchasing base, the strategy used in development has 3 strategies; namely       (1) increasing the production volume, (2) increasing the production efficiency and reducing the cost of production and (3) developing the production quality; in order that there are two important mechanisms that must be brought to mainly use in operation that is process group and the learning process for Weakness analysis and that Threat. Agriculturists cannot access to buying source being big industry and agriculturists cultivate as household more than group and the ways of sweet corn product potential management consisted of 8 ways as follows: 1) promoting the knowledge for agriculturists, 2) doing the production bookkeeping, 3) central pricing, 4) seeking more markets for selling products, 5) setting the center for selling quality seeds, 6) building the network for sweet corn production, 7) building the learning center for community sweet corn production and transforming, and making the demo plot to be pilot area.
