The Administration Approach for Healthy City in Municipality of Kohsamui

Abstract

         This research aims to study the management of the present municipality of Koh Samui these days; to study the factors that affect the management of the municipality of Koh Samui to be a good place to live; to study the problems and suggestions in managing the municipality of Koh Samui to be a good city to live and be a guided management of the municipality of Koh Samui as a pleasant city. This qualitative research was conducted by in-depth interview of 40 key informants provided. A group of fifteen key informants was selected to focus on the data collected from the interviews and group discussions. The results are as follows. 

         The management of the municipality of Koh Samui has currently put in place various policies, i.e. educational policy, social and welfare policy, economic policy, natural and environmental policy, infrastructure policy, religious, artistic and cultural policies,  tourism and sport policy, political and administrative affairs policies with the aims to develop a clear city and strategic and project planning. However there is a lack of participation from all sectors together with the management efficiency of the municipality of Koh Samui itself. When considering each side, it was found that there were activities in the safety of life and property involved as well as physical environmental management, health service and the development of public utilities system with good management system, effective management, and the conservation of tradition, religion and culture as a whole.

         The factors that affect the management of the municipality of Koh Samui to be a pleasant city to live are those affecting the development of the municipality of Koh Samui to be a pleasant city to live based on geography policy (Road Map of Sustainable Thailand, 2017-2036), population and tourism, technological progress, budget, urban development policy of Koh Samui Municipality, management and participation, rules and regulations, local identity and arts.

         The management of the municipality of Koh Samui to make it a good place to live includes 6 ways of approach: 1) To improve the management of the city to live effectively. 2) To focus on physical, environmental and ecological sustainability. 3) To upgrade basic structure for the benefit of economic development of Koh Samui. 4) To become the city of health and hygiene 5) To strengthen the local identity and 6) To establish Koh Samui to become a multi-networking location.
