A Guideline for Promoting the Development of Monks' Role and Social Development: A Case Study of PhraKhru Vimol Issaratham (Mao Issaro)
Abstract
The purposes of this research were 1) to study the practice and biography of PhraKhru Vimol Issaratham (Mao Issaro), the Abbot of Pa Laylai temple, Ban Mai, Sam Vang Sub-district, Huai Rat District, Buriram Province, 2) to study the role of PhraKhru Vimol Issaratham (Mao Issaro) and social development, and 3) to recommend a guideline for promoting the role of monks in social development. The research was a qualitative research. The sample consisted of 17 monks, temple committees, community leaders, villagers, president of Sub-district Administration Organization, village philosopher, school administrators and teacher representatives. The research instruments used in this research was structured interview. Data Analyzing by creating inductive conclusions and descriptive analyze. The main research findings were as follow; 1) PhraKhru Vimol Issaratham (Mao Issaro) had practiced by praying with the monks and novices in the temple every day throughout the year and had chanted the Fundamental Precepts (Sùat-Bpaa-Dtì-Môhk) in every semi-monthly. 2) The results of the development were found role in social development, including the development of the government, religious education, education, propaganda, public utilities and public welfare, The villagers in the community have a better life respectively and be applied to improve the quality of life for family, community and society. And 3) recommendation a guideline for promoting the role of monks in social development, namely; it should encourage religious learning and promote participatory governance emphasizes unity.
