Verbal and visual puns in jokes

Abstract
This academic paper aims to explain linguistic theory related to humor and discuss how to analyze both verbal puns and visual puns in jokes. In this study, puns in jokes were examined according to the General Theory of Verbal Humor (GTVH). The sample data used was mainly jokes in English, and the discussion provides a better understanding of the theory and its application in English language teaching.
