Background and Aims: The legal actions taken to encourage the import of goods that meet environmental criteria are the main topic of this scholarly article. The following are the goals: 1) to research and evaluate the use of laws to encourage business owners to import eco-friendly goods; 2) to identify policies and recommend legislative actions to encourage the importation of goods that meet environmental standards and lessen the effects of the importation process on the environment.
Methodology: This study examines relevant documents and research and analyzes them in conjunction with the context related to promoting the import of environmentally standard products.
Results: The study's findings revealed that 1) Regulations about tax benefits and privileges for importers of environmentally regulated items, including environmental standard inspection of imported products, are still absent from Thai law. Because of this, some business owners do not value goods imported into Thailand. Furthermore, the cost of producing products with environmental requirements is higher than that of similar products, making them more costly. Furthermore, some customers value lower costs, which is why there is a limited market for items with environmental criteria. 2) Guidelines for improving and amending pertinent laws to be more effective, especially tax measures, as well as encouraging cooperation between the public and private sectors and providing incentives to entrepreneurs who invest and follow environmental standards, are believed to facilitate Thailand's promotion of the import of products with environmental standards and sustainable development.
Conclusion: The Customs Act of 2017 should be amended about the collection of import taxes on environmentally standardized products as well as the tax measures related to the import of environmentally standardized products to facilitate cooperation between government agencies, the private sector, and the public sector to jointly develop the import of environmentally standardized products by policies and guidelines for efficiency.
