Enhancing English Consonant Reading Skills through the Application of Picture Me Reading Technique of Second Grade Students.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to: (1) compare students’ performance of English consonant reading before and after learning using Picture Me Reading technique and (2) to survey the students’ satisfaction with the learning through the Picture Me Reading technique. A purposive sample of 10 second-grade students from a single classroom at Thumbonkhumthong (prachauthit) School, Khum Thong subdistrict, Lat Krabang district, Bangkok, participated in the study during the second semester of the 2023 academic year. The research instruments were nine lesson plans incorporating the Picture Me Reading technique, an English consonant reading test, and a questionnaire to survey the students’ satisfaction with the use of the Picture Me Reading technique. Descriptive statistics for data analysis including mean, standard deviation, and dependent t-test were used.

The research findings revealed that: (1) the students’ English consonant reading scores after learning were significantly higher than those before learning at a level of 0.05 and (2) the students’ overall satisfaction scores were high.
