Mastery of Dual-Sword Combat for the Preservation of Thai Cultural Heritage (Soft Power)

Abstract

This study aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and skills in the art of dual-sword combat through self-directed learning, and investigate their satisfaction regarding their awareness of cultural values and the preservation of Thai national arts and cultural heritage. The sample, selected though purpose sampling, comprised of 36 students from Ramkhamhaeng University who took the Dual-Sword Combat course during the second semester of the 2024 academic year.

The research instrument employed in the study was a semi-structured interview with questions regarding knowledge and skills in dual-sword combat and cultural appreciation. Qualitative data analyzed through content analysis revealed that students possessed knowledge and skills in the art of dual-sword combat which they could apply to their daily lives. They also recognized its cultural value influencing positive mental attitudes. Furthermore, the art of dual-sword combat was conveyed through performances at the Thai Cultural Heritage (Soft Power) event, creating pride and ensuring its preservation and dissemination for further recognition.
