Lesson Plans for Early Childhood Music Activities Using Thai Traditional Songs

Abstract

This research aimed to develop lesson plans for music learning activities for early childhood using Thai songs. The study employed a research and development (R&D) methodology. Data were collected through a review of theories related to music learning activities for early childhood and the selection of Thai songs based on a previous study titled “An Analysis of Thai Songs Suitable for Early Childhood from the Book Siam Songs for Children”. The sample group consisted of five experts in early childhood music education using a structured interview form to gather their perspectives, and the data were analyzed using content analysis. The quality of the lesson plans was evaluated using a rating scale assessment form, and the data were analyzed using percentage and mean.

The results revealed that five lesson plans were developed based on five Thai songs appropriate for early childhood learners. The activities were designed to support six musical skills: listening, singing, movement, playing, creativity, and reading. Each lesson plan consisted of six components: concept, objectives, learning content, learning activities, learning materials, and assessment and evaluation. The expert interviews suggested that the concept should align with the objectives, activities, and assessment methods, with an emphasis on behavioral objectives and practical learning experiences rather than theoretical instruction. Activities should be organized progressively from simple to complex, using tangible learning materials. Suitable songs for early childhood should contain simple language, appropriate lyrics length, a pentatonic scale, and a consistent rhythm. The evaluation results indicated that all five lesson plans were rated at an excellent level, both individually and overall.
