The Development of Chinese Listening and Speaking Abilities for Grade 5 Students Using Activity-Based Learning with Flipped Classroom

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to develop Chinese listening abilities using the activity-based learning management model integrated with a flipped classroom, where the hypothesis was that Grade 5 students must have an average score of not less than 70 percent, and to develop Chinese speaking abilities using the activity-based learning management model integrated with a flipped classroom, where the hypothesis was that the students must have an average score not less than 70 percent and the number of students who pass the criteria must not be less than 70 percent. The target group in this research was 39 Grade 5/6 Kalasinpittayasai School students who enrolled in the Chinese course during the first semester of the academic year 2023. The design of this research was action research. The research tools used in the study include: 1) the tools used in the research practice, which consisted of the activity-based learning management model integrated with flipped classroom lesson plans; 2) the tools used to reflect the results of the research practice, such as the teacher's learning management behavior observation form, the student's learning behavior observation form, the forms for recording results of learning management, the student interview form, and a test at the end of the circuit; and 3) the tools used to assess the effectiveness of learning management, such as a Chinese listening ability test, a Chinese speaking ability test, and a conversation form. Quantitative was analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and percentage; qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis. The results found that 1) the average score of students for Chinese listening abilities was 17.74, which accounted for 88.72 percent of the total score, and 39 students passed the criteria, which was 100 percent and was higher than the defined criteria. 2) The average score of students for Chinese speaking abilities was 23.23, which accounted for 77.44 percent of the total score, and 33 students passed the criteria, which accounted for 84.64 percent and was higher than the defined criteria.
