Y Series Induced Tourism of Gay Relationships: The case of the series “I Told Sunset About You

Abstract

    This research was aimed to study the contents and scenes of Y series to induce tourism of gay relationships: the case of the series “I Told Sunset About You”, and the travelling decision making as well as the problems and obstacles of Y series travelling. A phenomenal research method was applied, and in-depth interviews were utilized with 15 gay tourists who traveled to trace the scenes of the series “I Told Sunset About You” in Phuket. The research instrument consisted of the study of concept, theories, and related research, and in-depth interview form. The descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data. The results found that 1) the contents and scenes of Y series influenced the desire of travelling to trace the Y series “I Told Sunset About You” of gay relationships, which the characters, contents and places in the series build the relationship and impression which affected the attraction of this group of tourists to travel in each location that was used as a scene in this series in order to imitate the lover behaviors with their lovers. 2) The travelling to trace Y series  showed that the key informants are fond of the main actors as well as the acting performance which attracted them to follow the series scenes. In addition, gay tourists focused on convenience and privacy when traveling. It was found that they rented out a car or traveled with a travel agency that organizes a dedicated series travelling program and joined the activities to imitate the protagonist in the series. 3) The problems and obstacles of travel is the matter of transportation within Phuket.
