Learning Enhancement of Creative Handstitched Art for Youth and Elderlies in Lanna-Culturally Based Provinces

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate quilt art processes which lead to economic enhancement of community as well as the processes of passing on creative quilt artwork to youth and elderlies, living in in Lanna Provinces. The 74 key informants consisted of 3 traders, 2 local scholars, 60 youths and elderlies, vice president of quilt art group, community leaders, officers of Phrae Chamber of Commerce, representatives of Provincial Administrative Organization and Tourism Authority of Thailand, Phrae Office, officers of Provincial Community Development Office of Phrae and Phrae Provincial Cultural Office, representatives of Phrae Provincial Industry Office, and 9 experts of art design. The data were collected by using interview, focus group discussion and short course public training. Then, the data were analyzed by applying content analysis, divided into major and minor issues.
The results revealed as follows. 1) There were 6 processes of creating quilt arts: designing, developing, marketing, learning, building connection, and transmitting knowledge and skills. 2) Since creative quilt art processes can enhance income of communities in in Lanna provinces, it should place an importance on local wisdom and resources in order to increase products’ value, quality, as well as identity. 3) Transmitting creative quilt artworks were considered practical, in terms of its processes. Therefore, the products were unique and met customers’ need, leading to economic enhancement and local wisdom sustainable inheritance.
