Development of Training Model for Occupational Competency of Jig & Fixture Technicians

Abstract

      The purposes of this study were to synthesize the occupational competency of jig and fixture technicians and an occupational competency training model. The research was clustered by three phases: firstly, to investigate needs for competency development; secondly to explore development of a training model; thirdly to analyze of outcomes of training model development. The purposive samplings were selective 14 students of technical education in industrial engineering enrolling in a jig and fixture design course in 2019 academic year. The research instruments were questionnaires asking needs for competency development, assessments examining knowledge and skills test. The research duration started from May, 2019 to May, 2020. The data analysis applies mean and standard deviation. The results showed that development of occupational competency of jig and fixture technicians were consisted of five training modules including purposes of jigs and fixtures, types and functions of jigs and fixtures, material selections for jigs and fixtures, fundamental principles of jig and fixture constructions, and jig and fixture design. Moreover, the results of training model development for improving jig and fixture technicians’ potentialities can be approved by the posttest’s score, which weas higher than the pretest result, at a statistical significance level of .05. In particular, there were 72 percent of the students, who passed the training standard, while the result of in between-assessment reached for 87.50 percent of the entire learners who participated the training. And, after the training, learners who passed the overall criteria were increased to 62.14 percent. Moreover, the packages of effectiveness assessment and training as following to the method KW#3 showed the result which were equated to 87.50/62.14. The result was higher than KW#3 at 70/60. Meanwhile, the results of the assessment of drawing skills in jigs and fixtures showed that all participants’ achievement scores revealed above 80 percent
