Behaviors and Demands of Elderly Dietary Supplement in Thailand

Abstract

 The purposes of this research were to study behaviors and demands of elderly dietary supplement in Thailand. The population and the sample were 1,000 people who lived in provinces that had top 5 highest above 60 years old people in Thailand. Questionnaire was used to collect data, descriptive and inferential statics were used to analyze the data. The results of this research revealed that 439 samples in Bangkok, 185 samples in Chiangmai, 135 samples in Khonkaen and 114 samples in Ubonratchathani. Motivations to purchase dietary supplement were the product was good for health; decision to purchase dietary supplements following celebrity such as stars singers and actors. Most samples used 1 or 2 dietary supplements, purchased pill or capsule, purchased from drug store. Most samples wanted to purchase dietary supplement for immunization and prophylaxis, wanted to purchase in pill or capsule. The factors influencing decision to purchase dietary supplement foods had the average in high levels for all factors. Hypotheses testing results revealed that dietary supplement consumption behaviors related to elderly dietary supplement demands in Thailand at the significant level of 0.05.
