Abstract

This article attempts to elaborate further understanding of Long Distance Nationalism which has been practiced among Kiều bào population of Nakhon Phanom province. This Long Distance Nationalism has been created by the Cult of Personality which was conceived via the Invented Tradition concept. The process was achieved by urging Vietnamese diaspora to supplant their ancestral worshipping practice with a national leader worshiping rite which eventually led to a creation of the sacred statute of the Fatherland Altars (Bàn thờ tổ quốc). The altars have consequently been enshrined in every kiều bào’s household thereafter. The practice was also prevalent in other areas such as Udon Thani and Mukdahan from 1940s until 1975.  The Cult of Personality has been an instrumental catalyst which compel the Kiều bào populace of Nakhon Phanom to revere the supreme leader and perceive the sense of  nationess in the same manners that their compatriots who live in the fatherland would pursue.
